5 x 7 Envelopes
When deciding on what type of 5 x 7 envelopes you are going to need, the first thing to think about is what are your needs? Is the envelope for a picture that is to be mailed and should be protected, an invitation with an inner or outer envelope, an announcement or for business correspondence?
It is important to know that a 5 x 7 envelope is actually 5 ¼ x 7 ¼. A 5x 7 picture or invitation requires a little extra room in the envelope to slide in easily and not become damaged so the envelope is made slightly larger. Most retailers list the product as 5 x 7 for the ease of the shopper, since it is a well-known measurement. The description on the packaging will give the true dimensions of the enclosed envelopes.
Types of Envelope Closures
The type of closure varies between envelopes and there are different styles to choose from. Most envelopes have a button and string, clasp, self sealing or gummed closure option. Button and string envelopes and clasp envelopes are reusable and are generally used for business correspondence or in house communication since they are easily opened and closed without damaging the envelope. A gummed seal, which does not require any moisture to close, is also available for added security. Pull -and -seal envelopes do not require any moisture and open by pulling a string. Self seal envelopes do not need moisture to seal the envelope and simply close with a fold of the top flap. Self seal and gummed seal are the most common types of closures used.
Types of Envelope Flaps
V-flaps are the most common type of flap available and are generally used for basic business envelopes. Square flap envelopes are traditionally used for self-sealing or pull seal envelopes. Most invitations that require a 5 x7 envelope will have a choice of a Baronial pointed flap style or A- Style envelope, with a square flap. Depending on what message is trying to be conveyed by the style of invitation or announcement, causal or formal, the envelope should also conform to that style. A formal invitation is generally placed in the Baronial 5 x7 envelope, while an A-Style envelope is used for a causal function.
There are no rules in deciding which type of envelope to use - it all depends on taste and personal style. 5 x 7 envelopes are available in multiple color choices and can be found at most stationary and office stores and a wide variety are available online.
